“He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.” (Psalm 40:3)
As much as I love music, there’s times when life gets to be too much and I feel like silence is the only thing that keeps me from wanting to explode. Where I normally don’t mind something in the background, these times I can’t even stand to hear worship music playing in the background. Why? Because life feels overwhelming, bc the pressure makes me FEEL like God isn’t still with me. Sometimes I even prefer to just wallow in my state of despair, it feels more right & justified bc “I didn’t ask for this fight..it’s not fair”. Even the Jews hung their instruments and refused to sing when they were led away into captivity. Singing is associated with joy, and joy is synonymous with being in the presence of God, so how can I sing if I feel farthest away from Him??
It’s actually in these times where having a “song of praise” is most important. “He inhabits the praise of His people”!
verb: inhabit:
1. (of a person, animal, or group) live in or occupy (a place or environment).
That means when we sing (our song of praise) we are inviting or asking God into our situation, our problems, our location physically, mentally , and spiritually. These songs help us gather the strength internally to carry on to the next, as He begins working on us from the inside-out. (This is also why it’s important we watch or “guard” what we listen to and see; all things are created from a spirit, so what are we inviting when we listen/view certain things..that’s for another convo tho)…
Feeling so low you just can’t find a song, but you know you need Him close? Don’t worry, He thought about that and covered you! “If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there”, means no matter how far we travel, even if we’re running away from Him..He is STILL there with us - and those songs help remind of us of that as well!
