As much as living this life is about spreading the Word, I believe it’s us being transparent and living by example for one another as well. I’ve learned that GOD doesn’t give you a word that He doesn’t take you the trial and lesson for as well. While GOD has broken down plenty of walls for me, and fortified others, one area that still remains “unguarded” for me is my anger. It’s definitely gotten better, but I also know it only takes a small opening to give the enemy an opportunity to wreak havoc in our life.
The thing about leaving things like that unchecked is it not only affects your future but that of the generations after you. For me, my anger stemmed from fear; and other side effects that came along with it were lying and unforgiveness. In the past I’ve let how others handled situations mold how I react to future ones that are similar. My wife oftentimes tells me I’m too forgiving and need to set more boundaries with people, which I’m sure she’s right about, but then it causes me not to always be as GOD has called me to be. In turn I begin to judge people and situations differently, ensuring that I wouldn’t be vulnerable to people attempting to take advantage of me. As a result I sometimes alienate myself with no attempt at reconciliation.
It’s easy to overlook these things, until you become a parent and you see the cycle begin to repeat. As important as it is to leave an inheritance for our children, what good is it if we don’t give them the necessary tools (mentally and spiritually) to steward them properly. My first mission outside of obedience to GOD, is to be the head of my family the way GOD intends for all men to be, and lead by example for my wife as well as my children. I could continue with studying the rest of the Book of Joshua, but now I know what GOD was trying to tell me about foundations and fortification..guess it’s time to get started on reconstruction.
“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.”
