I embarked on this project shortly after I wrapped up the “Working While I Work” series on IG, where I went live for 27 days during the pandemic, creating beats while I was actively working my IT job. This, just like the series of lives, was done out of obedience of what God told me and nothing I drummed up or thought of myself. The direction and inspiration of the work came solely from The Holy Spirit.
The original name of this was “The Grace Project”, a Gospel EP that would feature 5 songs (5 being the number that is scripturally symbolic of “grace”). Musical direction and the majority of the production was handled by me, with the artist providing their own concepts/lyrics, and controlling roll-out, visual aesthetics, etc.
In the end the project was scrapped, but I still had a handful of beats with essentially nothing to do with them.
Around March, He (GOD) instructed me to “give the beats back to Him”, to which I had no idea of what that meant or how to do it. I used them for reels and IG posts, but He wanted more, and unfortunately I was reluctant on moving on the instructions. I was to release them as an instrumental EP, but I couldn’t do it. Besides not wanting to seem jaded or petty, I didn’t see any value in releasing unfinished or “skeleton ideas”, and so like many others I ran from it..moved on and tried to “create” away from it, continuing to make new beats and pushing to find a new sound.
After some months, I was able to break out of the box, but still felt a sense of stagnation around the vision God gave me for GodSouL.. like the proverbial ball & chain, there was a weight slowing me down and causing me to “drag”. After a series of God-orchestrated events, He led me back home, to where the journey started; back to a place of pure obedience and reminded me of what He told me to do. So before God can make good on His word, I have to make good on mine, before I can release anything new or move forward I have to do what He said. I had to “let it go” and give the project back to God the proper way..

“Go With God Vol. I” is more about the message of obedience to God than it is about releasing beats or displaying talents and ideas. No matter how small and insignificant in our eyes, God is able to use those “mustard seeds” to bring forth the grandest of harvests. Whether we look at the woman with the oil or Jesus feeding the multitude, Ezekiel in the valley of dry bones..these miracles all start with something small, insignificant, and dead.
One of the reoccurring messages I’ve heard in this season has been God’s restoration power; Him restoring the dry places, bringing life back to “dry bones”, and God remembering the remnants. When God reminded me of His instructions on the EP, I immediately thought about recreating, re-doing some beats, adding what I’ve learned since its creation to make them “better”..but that wouldn’t have been the same fruit. Ironically enough the files and their back-ups were lost when my computer was wiped and reimaged (whole sermon in that statement); but I still had a few of the tracks left on my cloud drive..that few equaling FIVE, the original number of intended songs. The definition of remnant is “a small remaining quantity of something; a surviving trace”, so I know it’s His will for this to be the final track list.
Raw, vulnerable, done from a place of pure obedience with no thought of reception outside of doing His will, not doctored on or dressed up to boast my own skills..I give [and give back to Him] Volume I of “Go With God”…
